Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) - In an interview with Hawzah News, Hujjat al-Islam Muhammad Masjid Jamei, made some remarks on the demise of Hilarion Capucci, the recently deceased Syrian bishop, saying, "I knew him since a long time ago, in the early days after the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution he was in contact with Iranian officials including late Imam Khomeini. During my term as the ambassador of Iran, his contact with the embassy greatly improved."

Masjid Jamei went on, "When I was serving in the Iranian Embassy, There were some people with Arab ethnicities in Vatican. Bishop Cappuci's residence was not within Vatican since he lived in the city of Rome, but he had ties with Vatican officials. He had a friendly personality and always tried to help others, like when he was living in Rome, he used to help those Arabs who were new to the city and didn't know Rome very well."

Faculty member of the University of Religions and Denominations in Iran's Qom further described the personality traits of bishop Capucci and said, "He was a truly passionate and friendly person; he had his own code of conduct and was very sensitive about the issue of Palestine and always stood up for Palestinian rights.'

"Among the Arab religious figures who lived In the city of Rome, he was the most sensitive to the issue of Palestine. In different occasions, he used to bring up the subject of Palestinian resistance and support their cause; he truly fought for the oppressed people of Palestine and their rights more than anyone else in the city." Masjid Jamei added.

"On the Palestinian conflict with Zionists, bishop Capucci believed that Iran is the only country that is keeping their resistance alive; especially when the Oslo and Madrid accords were proposed in Europe to influence the issue of Palestine, he made a clear stance regarding the issue and deeply thanked Iran's stance on the case."
